A few days ago I sent an e-mail to To Write Love On Her Arms.

Hi,

My name is Alexa and I am currently a freshman at Dixie State College in St. George, UT. I am very fond of your cause and it touches me on a very deep and personal level. Two of my closest friends are cutters who are both desperately trying to move away from that way of life, and I have been through a lot with them in their efforts to stop. I care for them so very much and I want to help them and everyone that I can become what they want to be. I have loved everything about your cause from the moment I heard about it my junior year of high school. I fully agree with, love and support your vision. I even participated in TWLOHA day, and am attaching a picture of my arm that I wrote love on to support your cause and to support my friends. I want to be a part of your program, and I want to spread the message of love to everyone I meet.

This past October I competed in the Miss Dixie State College Pageant, which is a franchise of the well-known Miss America Pageant. Although I did not place this year, I hope to be better prepared this coming fall and become a voice to the faculty and students of Dixie State, as well as the residents of St. George and the surrounding areas. As far as pageant requirements go, there are the typical evening gown and bathing suit competitions, but the most important part of the pageant is each contestant's service platform. For the Fall 2009 pageant, I focused on Domestic Abuse. Coming from a not-so-perfect family myself and seeing firsthand what it's like to live in a battered women's shelter, I made a real impact on the judges and the members of the audience with my platform. I was awarded runner up for best service platform.

You can probably tell where I am going with this. I wish to somehow be more involved with TWLOHA and get the word moving- and what better way to spread the word than through a variety of service projects and such activities through my local pageant?

So I guess what I'm asking for is permission to use the TWLOHA name in my service platform, and for some ideas to get the ball rolling. I want to help out- but I have no idea where I would even start. I am a member of the FanCorps website as well as the SocialVibe network, but I would love to do more.
If you could help me out- by letting me help you out- I would be more than thrilled. Please give my proposal some consideration and get back to me, either via e-mail or phone. It would mean the world to me.

With Love,

Alexa

Thank you for contacting us and sharing a bit about your pageant, your friends, and yourself with us. We appreciate your concern for others and your dedication to helping those in need. It's a strong trait that is important to cultivate as you get older.

We want to first talk to you about your friends. We want them to know that they are not alone in this. We want to remind you that we are not professionals, but we want to help them find the help they deserve and need. We have resources at our Find Help page at www.twloha.com that may be able to help them through this tough time. Encourage them to talk someone they trust (friend, family, church, school) and let them know that their story is important. A lot of our resources on the Find Help page are accessible online so they don't have to use a phone. Support them and love them in whatever way you can. We are behind you all the way in this. We cannot emphasize this enough, please encourage them to talk to someone they trust. There can be a lot of healing in knowing and being known by others. This is a fight worth fighting and you don't have to fight it alone.

We think it's great that you are interested in using TWLOHA as your service platform for your pageant. We request that you just say that you are a supporter and not a representative of TWLOHA. At this time we are unable to be a sponsor too, so we cannot send you any free merchandise. It sounds like you are on the right track being a part of the Street Time and Social Vibe. Try to be as involved with that as possible. It's a great way to raise awareness and spread the word about TWLOHA. You may also want to consider holding a benefit for TWLOHA. Benefits can be anything, a concert, a poetry reading, an art show, a raffle, a dance, a dinner, etc. Use your imagination and see what you can come up with. If this is something you are interested in, please email benefit@twloha.com. We wish you all the best as you prepare for your pageant. Let us know how it goes!

With Hope,

TWLOHA

So it looks like next fall's pageant platform for me is going to be based around TWLOHA. I am so excited.
I thought I should share this... maybe someone reading this will find it interesting and uplifting. :)
If anyone has any ideas about service projects I could put together I would appreciate any extra input. ♥

For my first project... I'm to post this web banner around the internet ten times. so I thought I'd start here and on myspace.

"To Write Love On Her Arms" has been nominated for the category of "Best Nonprofit use of Social Media" in Mashable's 2009 Open Web Awards. It would mean alot to me and everyone involved in TWLOHA if you would take a minute away from your facebook and myspace pages or your computer games... or take a break from whatever homework you're doing, and vote in favor of this cause.

If you don't know anything about TWLOHA, go to http://www.twloha.com/vision/ and check it out. It really is a fantastic cause and it is something I am very dedicated to. Thanks to everyone reading this... I love you all.
