unplugged: day 2

Today instead of sitting on Facebook and wasting away my life, I:

1. Cleaned my bedroom.
2. Read three chapters in a book.
3. Memorized half a poem.
4. Rolled down a big, grassy hill.
5. Won a stuffed purple giraffe from a claw game. (Technically, Paige won it for me.)
6. Saw a musical (for the third time in its run).
7. Asked a stranger if he'd let me have one of his Oreos. (He didn't hear me.)

I recently found my old notebook from my senior year Humanities class. The very last entry, dated in February of 2009, consisted of advice and guidelines given to us by our teacher from his own life experiences.
I just thought I'd document it in case I ever lost the physical copy.

- Don't be mediocre. Stretch yourself.
- Look out the window. See the world through someone else's eyes.
- Bloom where you are planted. Wherever you find yourself- Grow.
- Life is full of phases. We can't rush through them- they have to pass. Embrace them, love them, let them unfold... You'll find peace.
- Go to college. It's a price worth paying. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
- Show gratitude. Pause, look at how others bless you life- but don't expect them to.
- Look to your future with hope. Don't be fearful or cautious. Dive in headfirst and enjoy the ride.
- Follow your heart. Whatever your passion, you can make it your livelihood. Do what you love, it will return to you.
- Read Shakespeare.
- Travel. You'll gain perspective on your own existence.
- Know that you are cared for.
