believe

day 19 - what do you think of religion? or, what do you think of politics?

I'm going to just generalize my thoughts and opinions on religion.

1. I don't know what I believe.
2. God knows where I'm coming from.
3. The LDS faith has a lot of good principles, and it helps people become good, happy people. I believe that the LDS church puts out guidelines for the members to follow to reach their own personal goals of being "good" people and finding peace with themselves.
4. The Bible is a good book full of great stories with righteous morals.
5. The Book of Mormon isn't something someone could just make up.
6. If God is an all-knowing being, if He knows that we are all going to take the paths in life that we are going to take, If he already has a plan for us and he knows the decisions we will be making before we ever make them... then what is the point? We're all pre-destined. How can we be put on this Earth to take a "test" if God already knows our final grade?
7. The thought of the temple and what goes on inside of it scares me to death.
8. I believe in questioning everything I'm told. I won't believe something until I have strong evidence of some sort to back it up, whether it be physical evidence or a strong feeling.

Like I said, that's an extremely generalized overview of my thoughts and beliefs. I could seriously elaborate for hours on this topic, but I don't want to offend anyone or make any of you think less of me.

I'm not going to post about politics for a few reasons:

1. It causes too many arguments, and my blog is not the place to start a fight.
2. I have really different views on politics than a lot of people in America do.
3. I don't want the government to someday get a hold of my writings and send me to a prison camp.

  1. Hi Alexa! I'm another one of your random readers. I love your blog. And I have a couple of comments on this post. :)

In regards to number 6: Heavenly Father does know the outcome. But WE don't. The plan was made for us, not Him. We are here to test ourselves and see what we will do with our time here. We are trying to become Gods, so we have to practice following rules and restrictions, being kind and forgiving when it's REALLY hard, and growing up in wisdom and righteousness. We are here to discipline ourselves and learn to rely on Christ for our perfection. As Gods and Goddesses we cannot expect something of those who look up to us that we cannot fulfill ourselves, so we are in training. We have to see how far life can push us so that we know we can do hard things. Of course God knows the plan, but it was made for our own discovery. We're here to see what we are made of. The test is for ourselves, not for God.

And about number 7: I was too. I just got married and I was concerned for quite awhile. It's very different, but once you think about it, it fits perfectly with the plan. Take history classes before you go to the temple and it will give you an entirely different perspective. You will see that symbolism is not trivial like the world thinks it is now. You have to realize how important symbols have been to the people of this earth for hundreds of thousands of years, and then you will be more open to what goes on in the temple. Don't be afraid, but try your VERY hardest to get there. I can't tell you how amazing it is to be there with your future husband.

About number 8: GOOD. That's the way the Lord wants it. Utah can be so weird sometimes, but learn to lean on personal revelation and you will be able to understand all truth.

Good luck with everything and just know that you have a big fan!
