serve

day 21 - (scenario) your best friend is in a car accident and you two got into a fight an hour before. what do you do?

I really don't like this prompt.
So, my answer is this: I would go to the hospital and apologize. If they're a true friend it wouldn't even matter.

So I'm changing the prompt for today:

day 21 - when was the last time you unselfishly did something for someone else?

My mom asked me this question the other day, and it really made me think. When was the last time I unselfishly did something for someone else?
I told her, "I bought Camden a smoothie today?"
She said, "That's generosity, not service. But it's a start."
After some more thought I said, "I unloaded the dishwasher the other day when it wasn't my turn?"
"Still, generosity, not service. Service is giving with full heart. No ulterior motives."
Well after that I didn't answer her.
I couldn't come up with an answer.
I turned to the dictionary and looked up the definition of "service." That was really no help because all it could tell me was that it was "the act of serving."
So I looked up the verb "serve" and it returned these responses:
a: to be of use
b: to be favorable, opportune, or convenient
c: to be worthy of reliance or trust
Still no luck.
In high school I would give people rides everywhere, and I usually didn't expect gas money (unless we were going on a long trip) and I didn't expect any favors in return.
I like to make food for my friends.
I don't know! This is ridiculous.
When I attended cosmetology school (for the five minutes that I did) "service" was defined as something we can offer to the public- manicuring, hairstyling, pedicuring, waxing...
The more I think about it, the more I realize that I don't remember doing "service" for someone since I was in middle school, doing a church service project. ...I guess? I think the whole problem is, I have no idea what the definition of service is anymore. My mom confused the crap out of me. Anyone have any suggestions?
